{"id":869,"date":"2020-11-14T00:17:59","date_gmt":"2020-11-14T00:17:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/christiniacrippes.com\/food\/?p=869"},"modified":"2020-11-14T00:17:59","modified_gmt":"2020-11-14T00:17:59","slug":"thats-amore","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/christiniacrippes.com\/food\/2020\/11\/14\/thats-amore\/","title":{"rendered":"That\u2019s amore"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>It\u2019s been an eventful <a href=\"http:\/\/christiniacrippes.com\/food\/2020\/11\/10\/desperately-craving-trashy-brunch\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">few weeks<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/christiniacrippes.com\/food\/2020\/10\/30\/its-my-birthday-and-ill-geek-out-if-i-want-to\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">around here<\/a>, and well, <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/d7e64d8b270ed3bf8daf58f01775d627\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">around the country<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/lifestyle\/media\/trump-coup-media-coverage\/2020\/11\/12\/453be1d0-24e3-11eb-a688-5298ad5d580a_story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">so much<\/a> is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/health\/archive\/2020\/11\/third-surge-breaking-healthcare-workers\/617091\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/health\/archive\/2020\/11\/third-surge-breaking-healthcare-workers\/617091\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">so awful<\/a>, it\u2019s important to celebrate the good things as best we can. So, this Tuesday, to take a moment to enjoy our anniversary, my sweetie and I poured some good wine and I made a very simple, not very classy pizza supreme dip.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"982\" src=\"http:\/\/christiniacrippes.com\/food\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/20201113_175208-1024x982.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-862\" srcset=\"http:\/\/christiniacrippes.com\/food\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/20201113_175208-1024x982.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/christiniacrippes.com\/food\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/20201113_175208-300x288.jpg 300w, http:\/\/christiniacrippes.com\/food\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/20201113_175208-768x737.jpg 768w, http:\/\/christiniacrippes.com\/food\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/20201113_175208.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 767px) 89vw, (max-width: 1000px) 54vw, (max-width: 1071px) 543px, 580px\" \/><figcaption>Supreme pizza dip ingredients.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>We listened to music while it came together in minutes on the stove top, and then while I tried not to over-broil the cheese on top. We enjoyed it with bagel chips, because then <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bagel_Bites\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">you can have pizza anytime<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chances are good that if this were a normal year, we would have done something similarly simple. However, I think in these circumstances, and after the year we\u2019ve had, it took on an extra significance of enjoying those things we can.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pizza dip and zinfandel might not be everyone\u2019s ideal anniversary dinner, but it suited us, and it\u2019s part of why we suit each other.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here\u2019s to our 8 happy years, even in tough times, and here\u2019s hoping for many more.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"940\" src=\"http:\/\/christiniacrippes.com\/food\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/20201113_175308-1024x940.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-863\" srcset=\"http:\/\/christiniacrippes.com\/food\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/20201113_175308-1024x940.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/christiniacrippes.com\/food\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/20201113_175308-300x275.jpg 300w, http:\/\/christiniacrippes.com\/food\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/20201113_175308-768x705.jpg 768w, http:\/\/christiniacrippes.com\/food\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/20201113_175308.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 767px) 89vw, (max-width: 1000px) 54vw, (max-width: 1071px) 543px, 580px\" \/><figcaption>When the moon hits your eye &#8230;<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Here\u2019s what I did, mostly following a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bhg.com\/recipes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Better Homes &amp; Gardens<\/a> recipe:\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ingredients<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>8 to 10 oz. bulk Italian sausage (I used fake sausage crumbles that came in a 10 oz. bag)<\/li><li>1 small onion, chopped<\/li><li>1 small green pepper, chopped<\/li><li>2 cloves garlic, minced<\/li><li>1 (15 oz.) can pizza sauce<\/li><li>1 c. pepperoni pieces, chopped or sliced<\/li><li>1 small can sliced black olives<\/li><li>1 c. Italian cheese mix, shredded<\/li><li>Bagel chips or baguette-style bread slices, for serving<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Directions<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Preheat broiler.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a seasoned or greased 9-inch cast iron skillet, cook the sausage, onion, and green pepper, until sausage is browned. (Since I used fake sausage, I didn\u2019t need to worry about breaking up the meat as it cooked nor draining the fat, but if you use real sausage, you may need to do those things.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Stir in the pepperoni, pizza sauce, and olives. Continue to cook over medium heat until the mixture is bubbly and warm, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat, and sprinkle with the shredded cheese.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Broil the mixture for 2 to 3 minutes about 3 to 4 inches from the broiler, or until the cheese just starts to brown (and looks like a lovely supreme pizza).
